Re: Dietrich 42% Slick rebuild

I kind of forgot about this thread and it is time to sort of finish it!

The plane is done, just needs some kind of graphics now. It took a large amount of work to get it flight ready but it now fly's and it fly's beautifully!! The inside of the wings were a mess, I really don't know how they managed to stay together as long as they did! I added spars over the wing tubes and the wing tubes boxes in the wing with carbon tow as well, they will not let go now!!!

I have six flights on it now and I am finally getting comfortable with it. The first flight for me with this plane was a real knee knocker! I had never flown a plane larger than 35cc. As my friend Doug said the first flight was a butt cheek clincher! But I got it down in one piece other than spreading the landing gear out about six inches and of course breaking the prop!

So as she is now and graphics yet to come........

Here is some info on my Dietrich 42% Slick 540

Ended up with a balance point of 5 1/8" back from leading edge.

Beautiful Plane and flies great! took 1 degree of Aileron differential

Had some challenges with it but got her pretty well worked out now.
Thanks Hugh, maybe I will stay with 5 1/5 to start with.

Re: Dietrich 42% Slick rebuild

But now I have a balance question, hoping someone knows the balance point on this thing. I was told it was 5 1/2 inches back from the wing tip which puts it an 1 1/5 ahead of the wing tube. For some reason that does not feel right to me. Most planes I have built have the CG right on the wing tube.

I have done a lot of work to this plane, I had to add spars top and bottom to both wings as the wing tubes boxes had broken free and broken through the wing skin top and bottom. I can add pictures if some one look like to see...
