We'll still let you into the Ontario Squadron, but, honourary status will have to do. LOL.
That's a nice scheme and should be fairly easy to do. I have always been in favour of easy....

Re: FLY FLY F-86 thrust tube?

Pogo,
You are right! The thrust tube is slightly tapered. You have to measure it to see the difference. I plan to use a large Timhortons paper cup to funnel the end to a final diameter of 72mm. A little better efficiency couldn't hurt.
Sorry Bob B, I'm kind of set to have the US black/white stripes scheme. Hope that doesn't exlcude us from the next Ottawa meet.
Cheers Eric

I think if you check the fit of the tube in the fuse (or measure it) you'll find that it is indeed tapered. Pretty sure mine was, if memory serves (which it doesn't sometimes).

Re: FLY FLY F-86 thrust tube?

I don't really want a faster plane. I just thought maybe if it was a little more efficient, I might get better flight times by being able to reduce thrust more in cruise.
I'll leave it stock and perhaps try stuffing a coffee cup up the hole once it has flown.
It should only take a couple more days work to finish (to flying condition). Detailing comes second.
Cheers Eric

Re: FLY FLY F-86 thrust tube?

Eric: When I built mine I had no clue about Fan Swept area and tail cone reduction. I still have never learned much about it nor done anything with it. I built my Sabre with a straight thrust tube. You saw how it flies. I remain convinced that no amount of extra thrust will turn it into a rocket ship. It flies just fine for this old timer.

FLY FLY F-86 thrust tube?

The stock thrust tube is a cylinder. Shouldn't it be tapered about 10% for better efficiency? Has anyone here who built one tried this and how was it accomplished? Securing the thin plastic tube might be a problem if it is smaller than the foam formers provided. Has anyone tried putting a slight choke at the very end (small cone behind the original tube).
Thanks Eric
