Correct, the Tiger Moth has an under cambered wing section.

Re: De Havilland 82A tiger moth question

ok Mike thanks for the feedback.

so if these bottom riblets are covered, the bottom of the wing, along the LE will have a sight bulge . I now see that the ribs are not flat where they meet the LE spar the riblets help to fill the gap between the spars
I now under stand. this gives a slight camber to the wing.

thank you,

Not entirely sure what you mean about the riblets protruding under the leading edge - the riblets are supposed to be duplicates of the profile of the wing ribs, albeit it these are at the bottom surface of the ribs, and are there to provide extra support for the fabric at the bottom of the leading edge. They are similar to the riblets at the top surface of the leading edge, just there are less of them further apart. They are covered along with the ribs proper - nothing should be sticking out!

Question 2 - it depends on which engine/carb. If it has a Walbro, then it has a pump in it and should be fine, if it's a gas conversion and has more of a model carb, then it will flood etc., with the tank gravity feeding from the top wing centre section. Not sure where muffler question would come into the equation - not needed with a pump.

De Havilland 82A tiger moth question

hello ,
I have downloaded this plan from the outer zone website

http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=2662

I have had the plans rescaled so that the wing span is now 76 inches .

I plan to build this after I get finished the piper J3 I am building at the moment . I have been studying the plans so as to be familiar with all the details. I have a question about the leading edges of the wings . If you check the plan there is a set of 36 lower riblets , 9 per wing. my question is when covering the wing do I cover the lower riblets , or are they supposed to protrude under the LE? My first though is that they protrude.

Another question, the fuel tank is on the upper wing, gravity feed, from what I can see. I plan to use a 10cc gas engine . will this work to supply the fuel or do we need backpressure from the muffler?

Any comments would be appreciated.
