J3 on skis

Well I flew my J3 on skis today,I managed to get one flight in before my onboard glow batteries went down,I guess they didn't like the cold much at -10C.Had fun anyways. The location is the 3rd line airstrip here in Sault Ste Marie. There are only a handful of full size types here;3 Challengers,1 T-Bird,1 Jodel, and one Cessna 140.We fly on skis here in the winter with our Challengers so its a pretty good spot for r/c planes I think.Would have been better if the runway was packed today but at least I got one flight in..

I recently installed a OS160 twin in the J3,it once had a Ryobi weedie engine and then a OS 120 III pumped that it flew with for years on floats wheels and skis.Great engine that I wish I hadn't traded.

Nice pics, I hope to get out soon with my big Cub. The snow cover is inconsistent around here so I use homemade skis that mount over the tires. Quick on and off. The photo was taken just before I realized I'd forgotton my transmitter!

I´m not sure is my 1:5 Piper Cub really "Giant scale"...I have used home made skies few winters. Now here is no snow...but here is one pic:

Looking good Steve, only thing missing is a Luscombe or 2.

My Cousin Ed moved to the sault, he bought a laundrymat there and is trying to retire. He owns 2 Luscombe's , a 47 8A (same as mine) and a 49 t8F. I think he may be looking for a airport to keep it.
