Telephoto lens. As long as the big guy stays on the runway, there is no problem! Good picture though............................

I would take a guess that it is a DOCTORED pictures.....

Why the biggest reason is that the 2 small planes are TOO CLOSE TOGETHER.... you you stop your plane 2 feet behind the one in front of you.... I would say NO you would be futher back. Plus if you look they are sitting on GRASS not the runnway.

sorry guys

Actually - when looking for a doctored photo I look for poor clipping around the elements, and even if that is done well the quality of light and the direction of the shadows is usually a give-away - this one passes those tests as far as I am concerned and I tend to think that it is legit ... add to that the fact that the angle and compression are repeatable ...

note that the pilot in 'EVB' is different ...

if it is faked ... someone has WAY too much time on thier hands.

As for the planes too close and on teh grass - I'd suggest that the planes are in a parking area, not taxiing

Jabba 07-30-2005 12:04 AM

sorry.... pilot would NEVER park or taxi there planes that close to each other.

If you look at the shadows of the two light planes, the one in back is also to the right of the one in front. The are not parked nose to tail. The telephoto lens gives the effect that all three planes are very close to each other, when in fact, they are probably some distance apart, especially the jet. Both small planes have their engines are running so are probably waiting for clearance to take off after the jet departs. Although if it were me in one of those planes, I'd be waiting a few more minutes to avoid wake turbulence! It definitely is a "different" airfield.
Cheers!

I went back to the website to see if I could find out more info on the photo and found several others that were similar. The airfield is Christchurch International Airport, New Zealand and the smaller aircraft are Piper Cherokees from the Cantebury Aircraft Club. The similarity in their call signs made me think that they were from a club or maybe a courier service. Here's another photo with less telephoto. It gives you a more accurate view of the distances between the grass runway and the concrete runway. Must be fun for the controllers!

look at the shadow on the small plane and then try to fine the shadow of the BIG plane. You can see shadow under the BIG plane ON the plane but not on the ground.

The little guy has a shadow twice as lone as the plane.

Morison 07-31-2005 07:14 PM

actually - the shadows fall at the same angle.
if you look at www.c-ingmagazine.ca/shadow.jpg you'll see a line drawn from the wingtip of the jet to it's shadow and another from the front of the cowl to the shadow on the ground ... I drew the line and copied it, not touching the roatation at all - the angles are the same. (distant light source)

Additionally, this picture is much more of an extreme crop than it is a case of telephoto lenses (although it was shot with a telephoto) the depth of field is simply far too deep for a long telephoto lens ... and it was shot with a 20d, and we are seeing screen resolution ... it coudl be a small fraction of the original file.

no silly... look at the shadow on the ground for the small plane.
then the big one...it does not have a shadow like the small plane.

Hance two different pictures... put together... shot at two different times of the day.

I have NO idea what your lines show... other then you can draw two straight lines.

look how long the small planes shadow is... and the big jet hardly has a shadow at all... again two different times of the day. :D
