Power Pod Where to Buy?

Does any know where to buy a power pod for a glider these days.
There is a company ICARE/ICARUS I think that makes nice ones but at $300 plus US dollar not interested in spending that much.
Use to be a few kits around or even plastic ones for 049 motors you could convert to electric but that was many years ago.
I don't really want to hack the the nose off a glider and install a motor as to me it never looks right unless it was designed for it.
Any ideas?

For glow or electric? What glider?

For RC sailplanes, ICARE is where it's at in Canada. You could check out soaringusa, espritmodels, skip miller, Kennedy composites in the USA or Hyperflight.co.UK if you want to import.

For Electric
Old stye balsa build up Gentle lady glider 78"wingspan $100 kit so don't really want to spend $300-400 on a pod.

No one makes the little pods any more, the only solution, unfortunately, is to make one if you need powerpod or chop the nose, very easy on Gentle Lady depending how 'esthetic' you want it. RCG has a few Gentle Lady conversions.
I did mine also, super flier, flew it in contests many times.

Boatcrazy: have you checked out Model Land in Calgary? I know that they have a couple of NIB old style power pods for gliders.

Try here. I have two of them. Not bad for $20

I have one that I got with a Sophisticated Lady kit that I am not going to use. It is unbuilt. If I recall correctly it also has a brushed motor with it. Let me know if you are interested.

Re: Power Pod Where to Buy?

If this is the retro over the wing electric power pod kit Chris has...

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1849252

the kit - or at least the information in the kit - would resolve two issues:

how to attach the base of the pod to the wing ... in a one piece wing the base of the power pod is typically molded to the curvature of the upper airfoil;in a shopmade power pod, we would typically mold a balsa or fiberglass pod base, using some plastic wrap as a release agent in the molding process

and

the thrust angle of the motor...... not always obvious, especially when t-tails and/or pusher configurations are involved; I know in an old Olympic with a conventional tail and tractor configuration, the over the wing power pod thrust line was 3 to 5 degrees positive

The downside of the CG kit would be the old technology of a brushed motor, on/off servo controlled switch and, I gather, a non-folding prop. You can certainly update it to brushless/esc technology and might have to figure out a new method of mounting a brushless motor within the kit pylon. On balance, if I got the retro kit, I would use the brushed motor/on/off servo technology, with a lipo power pack of the same appropriate voltage and "be done with it".

good luck,
