126" Carden Extra 260 w/DA170 RE3
4 Attachment(s)
After a quick vote, it's been decided to start another thread for this Extra 260 build over the spring/summer of 2010.
This plane will belong to RCC's code name "Jack Marcotte" (I can only publish his code name - due to privacy act, I can't mention his real name ) Because the 43% E260 and E300 are identical planes (except for canopy/turtledeck styles), I will only post the differences between "Wingburners" DA200 build and Jack M's DA170 build, since there will be a ton of changes between the two in order for the CG's to work out the same. What will it have.... * 43% E260 * DA170 on RE3 pipes * Graphtech Carbon G2 gear (haven't decided if it will be bowed like E300 or straight like E260) * Airman aluminum, solid wheels * WhiteRose carbon tail gear * Printed dash panel * Pilot - tbd * Servos - I think JR8711s Target weight range in the 38-39 lbs RTF |

First change is the landing gear. The Extra260 has straight gear, while the Extra300 has bowed.
Even though we won't be using this gear, the straight, stock version is1.5oz lighter (1lb 9.7oz vs 1lb 11.2oz). A Graphtech G2 gear is on its way which will take off roughly 13oz!!! |

Here's the pieces for the m-box.
Weight of the stock pieces = 2lbs 11.3oz Weight of the material removed = 8.3oz Weight of the motorbox assembled = 2lbs, 3.8oz Therefore weight of the epoxy and 18 reinforcement screws = 0.8oz *** I didn't go too nuts on the lightening of the motorbox since the DA170 vibrates lots more than the DA200 and contrary to the DA200, this plane will need nose weight for balance! *** |

A few more pictures of the motorbox with SWB mount and landing gear installed.
If you compare to the Jack D's DA200 m-box, you'll see quite a few differences! I also made sure the motorbox could be chopped off easily at the firewall (and a new firewall installed in the rearward position) so that a DA200 could easily be installed in the future!!! |

And the DA170 installed on the SWB 2.5 degree mount with 14" headers (90mm drop) and RE3 tuned pipes!
They fit really nice and are centered right down the future tunnel!! Wow, they're long!! |

Re: 126" Carden Extra 260 w/DA170 RE3
How did you figure out where the motor was going to be mounted before the airplane is built?
Thanks, Pedro. |
Re: 126" Carden Extra 260 w/DA170 RE3
Thanks guys!! This should be another fun build!! The E300/DA200 was a fun build because of the motor (and complexities because of the motor).
This build will allow me to have a little fun with some moderate lightening since there's a featherweight 170 up front!! Cheers Trev |
