You could always just run what you have until it breaks, but looking ahead:

I'm going to say parts to beef up the front end.

Igloo Racing front bumper
Turtle Racing front brace
Turtle Racing Front shock tower/mount

Better protection for spark plug:

And an absolute must:

Watch Deal of the Day for big ticket items:

Then throw in a few small things to make it worth the shipping. Pull starts/brakes/rear tires wear out fairly quick if you are running it much at all.

Thnx guys
The kill switch was already number one on my list. Btw that is a nice list to start with David.

Do you guys order direct from ddm or is there a Canadian distributor?
Earl do you have a link to the igloo front bumper?

I do all my ordering from DDM. I plan carefully as shipping is a bit steep.

You can do either. Hobby shops can get themselves set up as a DDM Dealer.

If what you need is only a few items or of low value (taking into consideration international shipping) buying from a local hobby shop that's a DDM dealer, is a great way to order. Dealer prices will generally be higher than DDM direct listed prices, but the same or slightly less than their direct, shipped to Canada prices.

If you are placing a larger order and spreading the shipping out over all the items per se, ordering direct makes sense.

DDM carries them. A guy down Chatham way makes them in his basement, but they are top quality.

Agreed expensive, but DDM really has their act together as far as getting their orders to their Canadian customers quickly...4-5 days is the norm...

I ordered my igloo bumper from him directly, just fire them an email. Arrived 1 day later!

My LHS was totally unable to order the KillSwitch, after 3 weeks of waiting they just said - order from DDM, lol.

Also this, to fill out the garage:

Edit: DDM does have their act together. I tried their cheaper no tracking option last week. No delivery so far.

I've ordered the igloo front bumper direct a few days ago. Not here yet.

Picked up the kill switch, filter cover and pull start cover. Ordered the flywheel cover. All from Great Hobbies. They are a DDM dealer.
The rest I will order direct from DDM just to see how long each takes to deliver.

The mini looks like fun but that's $60 I could put into upgrades.
On a side note the shocks are a pain to bleed. I can't seem to get it. As soon as I tighten the end up the shaft starts to move out from the body. I've let them sit for days now. So can't be air. Can it? Also when I fully extend the shaft it will pull back into the body about half of the way. I know there is a bleed cap set available but there has to be a way to bleed these things. I never had this prob with the savage but they bleed from the cap which I guess is easier.

Still need a battery. Thinking of a lipo for the power and longevity.

What do you guys suggest and where to get?

Great Hobbies has not stock for lipo that fits the Baja.

Thnx for the help
Dan

Re: New HPI Baja 5B SS. What upgrades needed first?

I just started building one this week as well. I ended up getting a bit carried away with upgrades as I originally wasn't going to get any..

Here is the stuff I bought that I can think of:

Spare clear body that I painted Bright Red
A Red Tribal body
Superbee kill switch
DDM tinted windows
Outer ware air filter and pull starter covers
DGI 1" axle extensions
DGI polished aluminum wheel nuts
Killer cables
HPI front aluminum shock mount
Fast Eddy hub cones
Set of HPI pre assembled wheels and tires for the street but I changed the bead locks to red Silverbacks
A set of red Silverback bead locks for the stock wheels and tires
HPI HD aluminum spur gear mount
HD aluminum clutch housing
Hostile 19/55 and 18/56 gears
Hostile MX front and rear tires
Proline black six spoke wheels with red Silverback bead locks
Molded inner foams
DDM black skull gas cap
Zenith G320 31.8cc engine

I drained my bank account on this one. That will teach me, I hope. Anyway it should be a blast. I am expecting around 80 kph with the320 and 19/55 gears.
