aluminum channel?
hey folks, haven't flown in quite a while, so I'm building a SPAD to get in the air ASAP. Got the wing and tail pieces cut out for a SPA3D, but i've been to 6 different stores and couldnt find any 1/2x3/4 id channel. home depot, building box, etc all have 3/4x3/4 but thats OD. too small for servo's to fit in.
Where is a sure fire spot to get some? thanks MoSeS |
Aluminum Channel
The Canadian Tire Store in Kingston has this stuff. However the store in Napanee does not. I believe the name on the sticker is 'MetalWorks'.
Hope this helps.... |
I had the same problem finding channel. I just went with the 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/16 OD stuff on mine. But you're right a standard servo won't fit so I did mine like this:
http://www.spadtothebone.com/misc/altservomount.jpg Works great! For the ailerons, I used two servo's mounted in the wings (also helps move those massive ailerons around with more authority too). I cut holes in the wings and used PVC backplates underneath to screw the servos into, but I've also seen them mounted on their sides and zip-tied onto the wing (actually did this on another plane and it also works well). Weight of the 3/4 x 3/4 is good as well (as long as it's the 1/16 thickness). My AUW is 4 to 4.5 lbs depending on which scale you believe. Hope this helps. Divit |
well, i went back to the building box and dug around a bit deeper and found some 3/4" stuff. Its halfway done now. hope this plastic plane flies!
