I got this email on Charlotte Susan Wood, Canada's first Silver Cross mother, and I wish to share this story with the rest of you. http://www.hellfire-corner.demon.co.uk/ceris.htm

I encourage all of you to share your stories on Remembrance Week.

A long sought after copy of "Spitfire - The Canadians" arrived today - the pilots, so young!

Thank you for the link. It is truely a moving story. These short historical essays are so important in teaching our youth about the concept of war in this period of history, and our nations proud role in these conflicts. I am going to use this with my Grade 10 History students next week. Please wear a poppy, and remember, and educate.

Every year I put a healthy donation in the box and take a poppy for all my staff(4-5). This year I heard that there is some presure put on the legion to use stickers instead of poppies as we know them as the pin could be dangerous for small children and at most schools the pin violates there weapons policy. I for one like the traditional pin poppy and a sticker just isn't the same.

The pin is now a weapon??? That is just SO bizarre...

Any time a model builder works on a military aircraft, it is a tribute to those who served in ALL the forces.

Talk to a vet on the 11th, and make sure a young person is there to hear what the vet has to say.

Re: We Remember

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,

Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining,

Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you soldier,

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,

"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.

Because those of us who carry guns,

Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,

And at times my talk was tough.

And sometimes I've been violent,

Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,

That wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime,

When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at times I shook with fear.

And sometimes, God, forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around,

Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,

Where the saints had often trod.

As the soldier waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you soldier,

You've borne your burdens well.

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets;

You've done your time in Hell."

I like the pin poppies as well. Always wear one every year and always will.......but those who gave thier lives are never forgotten at anytime.
