Its never been a question of "IF", its just been a matter of "when"......Check out Youtube, see for yourself where else some of these clowns are flying?

If we claim we didnt know of the existence of the "Stuff MAAC... stuff the rules... stuff ya all cos I'll fly wherever I want, cos nobody's gonna ruin MY fun" mentality, (that has emerged within the past decade or two) .....then we've simply not been paying attention !!

Mounties and TC are after his as.s

Guy is from Vietnam. Most of his videos are from Vietnam. My guess is he was visiting Canada when he shot this.

How do you protect against this kind of stupidity?

Old news guys, was mentioned last year. It was digitally zoomed in on the plane.

Brian if this is old news why was it on the local news stations yesterday and today? Also flying that close to this airport does put him in the flight paths due to the fact winds on the coast play an important role in the direction planes take off and land. Zoom camera or not he is putting lives at risk.

Thousands of videos on Youtube. Someone must have come across it at CTV and made a story of it. There are rules when flying rc close to airports, I believe outside a 5 or 8km radius is ok. We should, as RC FPV pilots, stay down low, say 400' or lower. I see lots of people flying extremely high up but most comments on those are "cool". I'm not condoning this flyer but he was not as close as the video appears, still too close to the airport. He was up too high, past 400' for sure. A little common sense needs to apply here also. Large urban environments are not the best place to fly FPV but out in the countryside, go nuts;)

He is for sure flying a lot closer than the video appears. this video was shot with a wide angle lens which pushes objects away visually. A Tele lens pulls things closer.

The zoom in part is digital zoom, but yes he is closer than it appears in the zoomed out portions of this video.

Re: Anyone seen this idiot on you tube!

YVR has two runways and during the day both are often used. He was at the north runway and out of the way of the second runway but if he was between the two the risk factor would more than double. I live about ten km from this airport and worry if I get 200 feet up due to lower flying small airplanes and helicopters that do fly that low around here. I just hope that common sense will prevail when regulations are implemented.
