We have been flying fanfold foamies during the last few months at our local gym, they are a bit heavier but still perform very well, are inexpensive and can take quite a beating.

As you can see, they hover very well and can do just about anything, although they are a little harder to fly than Depron, they seem to be a good practice airplane for anyone.

This one is a copy of the popular Cl..k , it only needed for the front part of the fuselage to be lengthened approx. 1/2 in to keep the CG where it is recommended to offset the added weight of the blue foam

Even though, we only use hot glue, this model only weighs 5.5 ounces without battery. I also found a very easy way to make light and strong landing struts.

The cost of the whole airplane can be kept under $100.00, the fuselage is only $2.00 to $5.00 depending on the shipping cost. Our club buys a bundle of 25 sheets and sells it to the members when they need it.

Many members of our three local clubs meet every Sunday at the same gym and we're having a blast.

If anyone is interested, I'll list the components and some building tips.

Yes some interest for sure!
Wondering on the specs....eg. wingspan ? and motor used? I have been using Elmers foamboard here with the cardboard removed and carbon fibre strips for strength. The downfall to carbon fibre is the cost of course. My next one is going to have the card
remain on the fuse.

As I mentioned earlier, the one in the pic is a copy of the Click which has a wingspan of 31.5 inches but just about any of the F3P models will work, I'm sure the originals fly much better but until I get confident enough, I'll practice with the blue foamie.

Here's the list of materials

Motor: Turnigy 2204-14T
Esc: Turnigy Plush 6 A
Battery: Rhino 460 mAh 2s or 360 mAh 2s
Receiver: Corona RP4S1 4CH Synthesized receiver or 2.4
Servos: 3 HXT 500
Prop: GWS 8-4 (GWS 8-4.3 slow flyer works even better)
Wheels: GWS 25 mm or larger if preferred (drill to fit the 1.5 mm. axles)
Wing bracing: CF 1mm (4 pces of 9 inches in an "X" pattern each wing)
Control rods: CF 1mm
Landing struts 1.5 mm x 8in. axles 1.5mm x 1.25 in.
Motor mount: 1/16 in. ply
Control horns: Blue foam
Control rod supports: Blue foam
Control tubing connectors: MED-RX 54-5015
Wheel collars: MED-RX 20-1104 ( a drop of hot glue works just as well )
Strut to axle tubing: 3/32 in. K&S aluminium tubing
Glue: Mini Hot Melt glue sticks
Glue gun: Mastercraft 15 watt set to "low"
Wing leading edge:1pieces 2.5mm x 250mm. fiberglass rod (sold in 750mm.)

Hi

I'll post close-up pics of the airplane later tonight.

A couple things I should also mention as far as materials are concerned.

I use 2 in. packing tape for hinges and Sharpies chisel tips from Staples for the stripes.

Leading edge: CF 1mm x 3mm

I flew most of them without the "magic tabs" which would be glued on the trailing edge of the ailerons, they are easily made using a 1/4 in. piece of pipe installed in a drill press ( don't start the drill, it's only for more precision ) and heated with a torch.

Hi

Here's a pic of the landing gear, if you hit hard while landing, the fuselage will touch the ground and the struts will bend without breaking every time. I used a piano wire bending tool to bend the aluminium tubing approx. 45 deg. to avoid kinks. A couple drops of CA at the alum.tubing is all you need.
