jr8103 battery replacement

This may or may not be a long shot. But has anyone out there ever replaced the internal Lithium battery on a JR8103. If so, is there anything special about the job, and where can you purchase the replacement for it.ie Radio Shack
I'am an avionics tech by trade, so I'm not afraid to open one of these radio's. But was just wondering if this job is something that JR has purposefully monopolized on or what. Let's face it, the warranty is only good for what, a year or two. But yet they say to have the radio sent to their repair facility in the states to have a battery replaced for internal memory after 5 yrs.
The reason I'm asking is that I am looking for an 8103 and don't want to limit myself to a newer radio, if this battery replacement is not a big deal. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi Mongoose,

Hope your search for an 8103 is going well. Below is a link to a post which talks about the 8103 back up battery replacement. There are more posts there on the same subject, you may have to join their forum and search, if you are not already a member.

Thanks Wayne

Here is a quote from Mac_Man_UK on RCU.

The Lithium cell is a CR2032 but with JR tagging. To date, I havent come across an equivalent here in the UK but as i buy them in from JR in Japan, I don't need to seek elsewhere.

It is very easy to replace and as I said, if you are quick enough, the system will not lose its settings.

Thanks again Wayne

Found a better answer on RCU from RandallM

I just found the CR 2032 battery listed on Batteries America's web sight. It is available with tabs, and costs a nominal $2.50

8103 battery

Thanks once again Wayne for the info. The search for a JR8103 continues. I had one coming in from out west, but it was apparently damaged before shipping, so the deal fell through. I put in a new ad in the "electronics-wanted" forum. Hopefully I hear of one soon!!
