Great Planes 81" Cub ARF

Does anyone have any info on the Great Planes 81" Cub ARF? I recently discovered this ARF has been *temporarily* discontinued from Great Planes. Does anyone happen to have connections to Great Planes to know if this ARF will be reintroduced any time soon? Does anyone know of any hobby shops that still have this ARF in stock? I've also put an ad in the Wanted forum in case anyone may have one personally that they'd like to sell. Anyway, if you have any experience with building or flying this Cub ARF from Great Planes I'd love to hear about it, in the hopes that I can still get one if it's a worthwhile pursuit!

Thanks!

Steve

Check the Great Planes web site. It still shows as a current model. It does not show up in the discontinued models at all. Hope that helps

I have one with an older O.S. 70FS on the front. Other than some issues with the attachment of the wing struts, and the screws being too small for practicality (IMO) it's a wonderful plane. I can take off at less than 1/2 throttle easily and if there is a breeze down the strip 1/3 is more likely.

It flies scale, and you need to fly with rudder to get it to fly properly. It's a floater, and some days it is a chore to get it to come down, it just wants to fly.

I had a lot of trouble getting it airborne at first; several people had told me to hold full up elevator (to keep the tailwheel on the ground, for control) when taking off. That leads to premature liftoff, stalling and thunking. Another chap (a professional pilot) told me do my takeoff roll with neutral elevator, let the tail come up at will, steer with the rudder, and give it a hint of up elevator when it looks like it is at takeoff speed.

Guess what? It works! Beautiful scale takeoffs every time!

Thanks Dave,

that's the kind of feedback I was hoping to hear! I really am looking forward to getting one of these in the air! I can't think of anyone who doesn't like a cub!! :)

My search continues... :?
