First crash of the season
 

Spectacular crash today, flew a couple good flights on my RV-4 and engine was running great, my new reciever in it was working good. Third flight in, full throttle pass at about 100mph, 20 ft off the ground.
Then the stab just blew right off and in 1/4second the plane was in the ground, literally.
This plane was the first I built when i was about 12, it was going into its 6th flying season.
The ground was soft thankfully so the engine should be ok (webra 50) and reciever is undamaged but most of the servos stripped out.

A good thing, I maidened my dad's TF spitfire with no mishaps, it flew very well and fast too. Great weather too, where are all the guelph guys??

I was hoping to get out this weekend but I am unsure of the field condition, when I was there this afternoon it was clear if we were going to open the field until Sunday. It was rolled this afternoon but nothing has been put up.

Oh yeah, sorry about the hole in the ground :) . We filled it in pretty good, but that would take out many a planes landing gear.

Damn, that's one hell of a crater :shock: .

Looks like your plane literally shred it's self to pieces on impact. Had a similar incident here yesterday, nose dive with a trainer into the ground. Wings sheared in half at the fuse and the fuse cracked. Amazing how even at such slow speeds so much damage can occur.. :)

Well it was a structural failure that caused my crash, the stab broke off when it was going 100mph. How did the trainer end up in nose dive with damage like that?

Hi Tom,

Sorry to hear about your crash.

Even though the receiver appears undamaged, it may be damaged internally. Please check it very carefully before using it again. Better still (and this is something I do anytime one of my receivers has been in a crash) send it in for a checkout.

Sound advice Jim; but the power of the Chinese Electronics industry may be making that an expensive option. I just came from my LHS and he was selling a new Receiver for About $32.00.

A very inexpensive way to protect your 'NEXT' plane.

Agreed, if you have an inexpensive (note, I did not say cheap!) receiver.

For some though, returning it for service is still cost effective. :wink:
