Yup, and a similar incident (near Calgary International) here last year. Kind of makes you wonder what people are thinkin' (or not).

Here is a question. If you see a person flying in close proximity to a airport, what would you do?

Hope this doesn't de-rail the topic.

With GPS technology getting more accessible and affordable it won't be long before somebody do something stupid and build one big enough that could be dangerous to full size aircraft.
Launch and park anywhere a person wants.

CNN reported that this 'drone' was at 1500 ft and indicated that even if one of the cheap drone toys went through an engine it could be trouble.

1500 ft near an airport = really dumb

That's exactly the kind of incident Homeland Security needs to have hit the media to justify clamping down on RC. Yikes! Hope cooler heads prevail.

We just had to be in close proximity for that to happen. CSRD shut our field down citing that as one of their concerns. Not the sole reason, but one non the less. Previously they had stated we needed to get an aviation radio to monitor air traffic in the area as well as inform Kamloops of our intentions to fly so they can produce a NOTAM. I spent $300 for nothing on a radio I don't use. PMO, lol.

Thank you!

My tongue-in cheek response above was aimed at the ambiguity of it all.

Its OK to worry, but I dont think it does any good to speculate all the negative press RC can get when nobody even has any facts.

Hands up if anyone knows that this was indeed an genuine military drone or a model aircraft?

Hands up if anyone knows whether or not this "drone" was operating under a legitimate SFOC??

Nobody knows. (yet) Freak out if you want. But the facts aren't in and its too early to tell. Of course, those with an "agenda" will be wringing their hands with glee and twisting facts to suit their agenda.
