Something wrong with Canada Post
Lately I have received 2 items in the mail. One of them was shipped through Xpresspost and the other one was regular airmail post with insurance coverage. The post office guy just left them in my mail box (the pigeon hole). Are they not supposed to deliver to my doorstep and ask for signature or ID to verify? I recall they used to do that for Xpresspost or any insured items. And if nobody is at home, they will leave you a note to pick up the stuff at the nearest postal outlet. The guy at the outlet will check your ID before they hand over the stuff to you.
Are they no longer doing that anymore? I used to feel that Xpresspost is 100% secure, but with my recent experience, I am not comfortable anymore. What happens Mr. Canada Post? |
I dont' believe they do that anymore automatically. If you look at the forms, there should be a check box at the bottom for signature retrieval. You have to pay extra fee's to have it signed. It's rediculous the amount you pay now to ship a package doesn't even include that security feature of a signature.

CANADA POST
Welcome to the real world of Canada's postal system.I've had the same fight with them for the past 3 years.Spoke with every one I could and got the same story. They are not to leave parcells and they are to get signatures.Nothing changed.
Their other favourite trick is if the parcel is something the size of a kit, they ring and run.My son was at the kitchen table this winter,on a rare day off in mid week and CPC ran the doorbell.By the time he got to the door, all of 10 feet, the guy was back in his truck and pulling out the driveway. It took two more days before I could get my kit. Great service,eh!!! Ian Gunn MAAC 25307 |

Personally, I have found Canada Post's service to be very good! Have never had a problem myself!
If an item is sent via Express post, even if you do not purchase additional insurance, it is insurred for $100 automatically. Its a dollar extra for a signature but you must request this at the time of mailing out the item! Additional insurance is $0.50 per each additional $100 of insurance. As far as leaving it on the step or in the mail box, it is Canada Post that is taking the risk as you can put in a claim if you did not receive the item or it is stolen from the box or off the front step! When I ordered my turbine from England, I woke one morning and found it had been just left lying on the front step.....a $3000.00 package just left in the open where anyone could have taken it...now that is a bit much for sure but then again, it is their responsibility to assure you did receive the item. |
Canada post
Hate to disagree with you Randy but when I called about it,they said it was at the local depot and i could pick it up otherwise it would be another week, maybe ,before they would retry delivery.
So much for customer service!!! Ian Gunn MAAC 25307 |

Xpress post parcels need not be signed for UNLESS the sender requests that, as Jim Jr. said. You need to check the box when you mail it.
Even in my small town, the postal delivery guy will track me down and make sure I get my parcels. It may not be a bad idea to get to know the delievery person (we have one fellow that does all the parcels here in Kirkland Lake) and anything with "Coholic" on it gets delivered to my shop, irregardless of what address (my house, my parents, or my shop) as he knows I am allways at work during the day. You do not need to sign for expidited parcels either. Ian, how large is your community? If its not too big, why not just get to know the postal employees and they may treat you a bit better... I know the three or four employees who work the counter at the post office here, and they even call me at work when a parcel comes in, and ask me if I want it sent out on the truck or if I want to come down and pick it up... all I do is chat a little with them when I go to mail something, and made friends with them. It pays off in the long run :) |

The insurance coverage with C Post makes you feel good for sure. I just
placed a claim for a missing express with a money order worth $55.00 US. Canada Post sent me a cheque for $10.00 Can funds . So I only lost about $$60.00 Canadian theoretically so far |
Canada post
Andrew,to answer your question,17000 plus but if you include the tri-community and the central distribution point for it,we're approx.115000.
The sub depos are all private contract and not CPC employees. However, the problem is with the delivery folks who are CPC employees. The private contractors are just as frustrated as parcels they are supposed to have waiting for us,usually arrive 18 to 24 hours late.Go figure. Ian Gunn MAAC 25307 |
