TRYING to find a good P-51 engine...

2 Attachment(s)
I have a Bud Nosen p-51 105" wingspan. Plane is heavy, and I need a good mill that will fit in her. Obviously I need a gas engine, and if its a twin, it has to be inline, because opposing twins would dart the heads out of my cowl, and thats just not happening. Ive seen the KOLM-IL 200, and id love to have it, but 5 grand just isnt a budget I can afford. HELP

Hey Barry,

I'm (re)building a Nosen mustang as well (110" though?). I plan to use a glow engine Moki 2.1...

If you are looking for an inline twin try the Moki 3.6 cu in. -60cc twin, they come in glow & ignition versons. They are very powerful & smooth I have a Moki 3.6 golw going in my Yellow aircraft P40 Warhawk & at 7 1/2 Hp. it has more than enough grunt to fly the P40.
Good luck.

You guys figure those engines will fly the plane? Remember, the P-51 was very heavy in its real form, thus why they went with the pratt and whitney 1800 hp engine. Maybe Im wrong and youre bang on, but either way, we all need some engines lol

Yes the Moki 2.1 would fly your Mustang well, but a Moki 3.6 twin would flog it along realy good in either glow or gas versions.

Wow ... I seem to recall my plans show a .60

But, a lot depends on how she's built. I'm targeting a very light airframe but, I've seen these come out VERY HEAVY, mostly because they were overbuilt and glassed in a rather amateur way....

I must have missed that , I thought they started with Allison and ended with Rolls Royce engines. Both inline.

Pratt & Whitney's were radial were they not? Used in the B-25's ?
Then again, they probably made more than one kind of engine
