HITEC vs FUTABA
I am looking for a new transmitter, I have many Hitec and Futaba receivers therefore My first choice is Hitec Eclipse with Spectra module.
I read somewhere it has the most features of Futaba 9 channel computer radio, is it true. Are they comparable at all? Which one would be your first choice, Hitec Eclipse or Futaba 7CAF or 9CAF. Babak |
I'm a JR flyer myself but, the Eclipse looks to be the better deal ... if you think it will provide all the features you need.
FWIW, I used to own a Hitec Prism 7 (predecessor to the Eclipse) and it was a solid performer. The nice thing with the Eclipse is, if you luck into any receiver deals, you don't have to pass on them because of their brand.... |
i like some of the features of the eclipse, but i would personally get the futabaf, i don't liek the way hitec feel in my hands and I think thats the most important thing, you have to get a radio with the features and specs that you need/want but also one that feels good in your hands, and I'm not sure but I was talking to my friend who has an eclipse adn we were lkooking at the spectrumm module in the GH catalogue, wouldn;t it maybe be not as "good" as a one channel moduale i just think you would get more glitches does anyone know if this is true or not? not saying it is just wondering

Check out the number of Futaba owners running the Spectra module (it's plug compatible).... |
Exactly Jim. I personally know 3 people using Futaba Tx's with the Spectra module. I have used the Eclipse for two years now with the Spectra and NOT a glitch.
Chris I would suggest that you check out the specs and talk to folks who use these radios and modules before making judgement calls based on 'what you think' ( I assume you haven't personally owned one or used it!) I use mostly all Hitec equipment including high end digitals and they are all solid performers. I have always found Hitec equipment to be high quality and very relyable! |
Hitec ; Futaba ? Sam Ding
I believe Hitec is owned by Futaba and are of similar quality.
Hitec being a bit less costly. :P Kinda like Chevrolet and Buick . |
Babak,
Have you considered the Airtronics RD series? They can change shift as well, so you'd still be able to use your old receivers...assuming they're on the right channel that is! |
I have held/flown and programmed with both Hitec and Futaba. I chose Futaba for obvious reasons :P
I suggest you hold/fondle and even try and scroll around through the programming on both before you decide. Can't say I have ever heard Futaba owns Hitec? |
Hmmnnn... I've owned both, flown both, in fact flew both last night (Wings night). Of the F.U.taba 7cax, 9cax and Eclipse, I prefer the feel of the Eclipse.
The gimbals feel more precise and the trims seem easier to find, switch layout seems more natural and the switches feel more solid. Having said that, I'm not a thumbs flyer (I fly pinch grip) and I've noticed a lot of thumb flyers tend to prefer F.U.taba. Yes the RD series is a decent radio, I've flown and programmed a few (1 last night) No Hitec is not owned by F.U.taba, Hitec did buy Multiplex recently though, another brand I like. If you're not too heavily invested in F.U.taba receivers, why not check out the new JR 6102? I just picked one up and am quite pleased with it, very similar in programming features to it's popular big brother, the 8103. |
Its not too fair to compare the 9C to the Eclipse, its just in a different category feature wise. Your better to compare the 7C to the Eclipse, but remember that the 7C is not module based like the 9C or the Eclipse which is kinda stupid...I dont know why Futaba would do that.
Futaba is supposed to be releasing a synth module for the 9C/8U series sooner or later. The thing about a synth module is that is does require more maintenance and care than a regular module does, especially if you fly a lot. I have 3 9ZAP's and have many friends with the 9C and there is not much that my ZAP can do that the 9C cant. It is a fantastic radio that you will very unlikely outgrow for a long long time. Now before someone says oh he is sponsored blah blah blah :) I at one time or another have owned JR, Aitronics, Hitec and Futaba and I choose in the long run to use Futaba, I could have just as easily been sponsored by another company.
