motors
i am thinking of running a 5.5 novak brushless in a xxx4 what does everybody think of it for sids

I just picked up 2 19t motors, Dynasty for my Dark Impact and a Element for my xxx4 and they rock. Both cars are fast enough for Sid's and plenty of power to fly over the jumps.

Phil - Motor choice
Phil,
I ran Dynasty 19T and found it very fast in straight. I did not lost noticeable time to anyone in the straightaway. It flies well and very controllable in the air due to torquey nature. Chameleon 19T a slightly different story. About as fast as everyone in the striaght, but due to a tendency to spin, it took quite a while to get used to the amount of throttle work to control flight. As you know, I could not figure out flight with the 11T. Could not keep nose down. When the car left the jump, if I did not apply brake on jump, the car would backflip. Could work out drag brake on my Qc2 to help out with this. My practice time will be dedicated to figuring out a strategy to work this out. The brushless guys have the advantage of minimal maintenance when they run. But.. we all have heard from driver stand, "the car is ok, it JUST thermalled. Put it down, when it cools I will go." Not sure I can stand this wait in favour of brushless maintence benefits or stick to brushed work. My $.02 |
In my YZ-10 I ran a 14t Quad. It was fast.. no doubt, and I did not have the problem over the triple because of the quad winds I think.. as opposed to doubles (more Torque).
Sooo.. you are in 4wd now too eh Phil.. lol |
thermalling
There are ways around the burshless systems thermalling!!!!
1) Gear down!!! 3-4 teeth, you don't need all that speed aSid's anyway!! 2) Add a motor heatsink it never hurts. (just got to fing a good way to keep those things on!!) 3) A fan on your ESC if it doesn't already have one. Reedy offers one, or used to for about $20.00 that plugs into your battery ciruit of your reciever. I just purchased a 19T dynasty for my xxx4, it looks like its got tons of punch, and O.K. top speed. |
motor
When I was running my Predator I was using a Reedy quad mag 19 turn motor. More than fast enough for me.

I use a 15dbl and have lots of power, speed torque etc.. just got a cobalt 10 dbl see how it works but the 15 is plenty fast especially with the new layout

92/28 on xxx4 might be good starting point
