Website Hosting

Looking to setup a new website for R/C club.

Any suggestions / experiences with providers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Check out my website to see what my host is like, then click the banner at the bottom of the home page for more info.

I've been with them for two years now, and they are very good.

Been with these guys for 6+ years. They are great and 30 US for first year.

http://www.fifty567club.com is one site and I have others there also.

And go to http://www.baremetal.com for cheap .ca domain registration.

I am not associated with any of these except as a customer but I believe in recognizing good service. Baremetal is located on Vancouver Island. WebStrike is an Australian company with servers in California but they are great and they are inexpensive and you don't always deal locally on the web! :D

I have a suggestion for the cheapest method going. I have been doing it for some time and works great.

Build your site and upload it to your own ISP. Everyone has personal webspace that comes with your account. My ISP gives 10meg (which is small), but it does the job.

Once you have your site up and running, you then create your clubs domain (i.e. www.prcmfc.net ) and register it with www.1and1.com They are only $9 CAD. per year. When you register your clubs domain with them, you setup where the new domain should redirect visitors to. You simply point it to your clubs site that you created and put on your ISP.

Works perfect and is only $9 per year.

Should you pass the website ownership to someone else, you simply give them a copy of the site and they put it on their ISP. When done, you go back to your account with 1and1.com and and change the location that your domain points to to the new place. You are simply redirecting the domain you registered to another location. It changes instantly and no one in the whole world knows any difference.

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions on this approach.

Yes. I've done similar also with free server space i've had (3 years with 1and1 was free for awhile and I still have it) and I redirect through baremetal.ca . I always hesitated to use the ISP route because it is called "personal" space and I always feel clubs can pay their own way. Our club is certainly OK and if rcgroups(which offered free space to clubs for a while) ever takes my free space away I'm sure my club can afford $50/year for legitimate space.
Personal space is just that in my opinion. I don't know why we feel that we should pay for insurance, lawyers, etc. but someone should be kind enough to work on our computer for free or set up "free web space". Anyway if it works for you it works. :D

Hello to All

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Much appreciated.

We have found a friend of a friend who has agreed to get us off the ground.

Will post the URL when we get there.

Wow . . . Kimbo

I've been trying to figure this thing out for a year now and never had any luck. This has turned out to be info that I was always lacking. I'm going to try again! Sometimes the uploaded pg would work, other times it might not. And it NEVER worked with any search engine. This gives me a new start!
