Need to fuel proof a fabric covered plane

Hi guys,

I acquired a Beaver at an estate auction a few months back and I want to get it in the air. It has a .46AX up front, side mounted, with a Bisson Pitts style muffler on it. The Fuse is covered in some sort of fabric that looks like it was painted (white latex??). Looking from the inside I can see the weave does not look completely filled and there are a few small holes in the fabric on the bottom.

I'd really hate to tear all this off and recover it, as it belonged to a fellow club member, and I'd rather not undo all his work. (Kinda disrespectful and all that.)

Any suggestions what I might do to save the covering and ensure it is fuel proof?

Hi Dave! I use Polyurethane flat clear spray bomb, It is the best. Tremclad clear flat works too.

Thanks for the response. Should I do something to ensure the weave is filled first or can I count on the spray bomb to do that?

Dave,
tremclad although is nitro fuel proof and hold up well.... tremclad clear IS NOT nitro fuel proof. Best and cheapest way is topflite lustre coat.. If there is a cheaper off the shelf available please let me know...

Probably Reynolds butyrate dope sprayed or airbrushed.Depends the size of the plane. If not thinned to much, will fill small pinholes.
