I've been racing and bashing Losi XXX-T electrics for a while now and am very happy with them. The Associated RC10's are just as good. I really wouldn't recommend the Traxxas trucks if you want to get into racing. My nephew has a Rustler and in spite of all the upgrades we've down it still won't handle as a racer and it breaks often. We have poured a lot more money into the Rustler than any of my XXX-T's. The Losi trucks don't need much to compete. They are intended to race from the get-go. There are lots of good deals on used XXX-T's and RC10's and lots of parts sources available. Parts are cheap for both Losi and Associated brands. The sky's the limit for hop-ups for either brand but they're not necessary to be race competitive.
My 2 cents worth,
Losi_Eye
