Re: Nitro vs Gas
No hijack here, just some facts,
Finicky walbro carbs: Yep, set one forget about them. once set up they are very stable, Nitro on the otherhand, hands down by prop near every startup.
have to agree with no reeds, unless you run ZDZ or OS gassers.
Got me on the ignition related components, but I am willing to bet Gas has less dead sticks.
Pretty rare you ever have to touch timing unless moved by the op.
Noise..... Have and heard some pretty loud nitros in my time.
Vibs... I have a few big tigers that shake like no tomorrow, 2c gas twins are pretty dang smooth.
Don't get me wrong, love my nitros just as much, could you imagine the cost of feeding a 60 to 100cc nitro, that would hurt.
To convert smaller planes from gas to nitro still makes sence to me though. Cost of a gallon of mixed fuel will run 6.50-7$$. Genrally burn less than half compared to a simular sized glow. Ignition units, reeds and whatnot will usually last the weekend warrior for years. But still something has to be said for the sound and smell of nitro burners, as that is where a lot of flyers cut their teeth.
