I find the most common set-up for a Savage 25, with or without a 3 speed, to be a 15T clutchbell and 49T spur. It's a pretty safe set-up. Another common problem, that will melt Savage spurs, is having the idle on the engine set to high. This causes the clutch shoes to drag which in turn over heats the clutchbell which also in turn melts a divot into the spur gear. One last thing that destroys clutchbells on a Savage. BIG tumbling crashes. The engine mounts are notorious for shifting after a big crash, and that usually binds up the gear mesh and chews up a spur. Double check your gear mesh after a big crash to make sure the engine hasn't shifted.
