Re: first glider recommendations?
Ther is a lot of good, (experienced) advice being offered....
I just started elec. gliding a few months ago after watching a bunch of other guys flying...looked fun so I took the plunge and bought what they had. It's a Nitro Planes Art-Tech Diamond 2500. It's big and does come with ailerons, so I have no experience flying without them. I have had 45 min + flights chasing thermals, while using less than 40% of the 3s 1800 lipo.
The large size (I added additional coloured markings on the wings and elevator undersides), make it much easier to see when you are 'up there'...it comes with two steel weights in the nose (presumably for slope gliding) which everyone removes in order to lighten the plane and move the CG further aft.
Maybe not the perfect choice for a first glider, but I have many hours on it now....pure pleasure when you shut off the motor and soar with the eagles!
Just my limited experience speaking! Gord
