Leo 46 RIP
I tried to break in the engine today.
At the end of the first tank I heard a loud bang and the engine stopped. The link between the piston and the krankshaft got broken - see the picture attached. I cannot see any damage on the sleeve or the piston. I am not experienced at all, but it doesn't seem damaged to me.
I started the engine very easily, and few seconds later, some really dirty stuff came through the exaust - seemed like black oil, but a guy at the field told me that is normal, the dark thing being metal powder from the materials getting breaked in. As I said, at the end of the tank I heard a loud bang and the engine stopped. No other signs (to my unexperienced eyes and ears).
I just took it apart and saw the damage. I emptied the fuel tank - All I got out was some black fluid, I washed it with glow, but metal particles - like a powder are still coming out of the fuel tank, no matter how much glow I put through it. I better buy another fuel tank, as it is cheaper than running a gallon of glow to clean it up, if it will ever clean.
There is a small bushing that looks cracked and I am wondering if that little hole in the bushing (I guess the hole was there for lubrication) did not get clogged with the metal particles and caused the bushing to overheat and damage the connecting rod ?
This kind of ruined my day - another day ruined by this engine - or by my lack of experience
Now I am affraid to buy another engine and start it.
