I would still recommend capping the spars. If you think about it, unless there are doublers or gussets to gain from the rib bonds, the ultimate transfer strength will be only the area of the spars themselves butted end on end. This is the least favorable type of joint and one with the least reserve before failure. It may seem capable, but you can easily exceed 2 or more G's in a tight turn. In fact, rule-of-thumb for a 60 degree bank turn is 2 G's to maintain altitude and our models can far exceed that.

In full size wood spars are bonded together in a scarf joint that transfers loads over a much longer area. The taper cut allows the bonding agent access to far more fibers within the wood.
