IME with a bit of heat and a light tap I have yet to have one not come free.
I guess I take it forgranted that anyone taking apart engines for bearing changes will have enough "common sense" not to go nuts banging the hammer about.
Seriously, your not going to damage anything doing it my way. I have yet to damage a crankcase, bearing, crankshaft, or anything else... luck, I think not - having dissassembled/unstuck and restored more engines in my life than most people in this hobby would ever dream of owning (in the hundreds easily) , from 1930's vintage on up.
I personally think (yes, its my opinion and take it or leave it) most guys are too afraid to work on engines in fear of hurting something. If you use your head and a bit of finesse, and even a bit of heat and "gentle persuasion" once and a while there is no engine that cannot be taken apart and fixed. Its not rocket science after all
So do what you want I will continue to do it my way... all I can offer is my own experiences...
