Re: Herr Engineering Cloud ranger build.

Yup, the construction is very similar to my Mini-Sport. Looks very good so far!

The stock motor is a speed 400 with a 2.5 gearbox. It weighs in around 3.3oz. You could swap in a similar brushless motor, but it will be much lighter requiring you to adjust the battery location to get the correct CG.

I see the setup recommends an 8x6" prop. For slow flying models I prefer larger props with more thrust. So if you can fit a 9" prop, it would be better. I like HeadsUpRC and recommend them to many ppl. Jeff the owner is a great guy and has excellent service and warranty. Here is a motor that should work very well:

HeadsUpRC Power Up Sport 400

HURC 18A ESC (Re-Branded Hobbywing FunFly)

Use with a GWS 9x5 prop on 2S for 'scale' flight.

You can also bump up to 3S lipo and fit an 8x4 prop for even more speed.

For batteries:

2S 1300mAh

3S 1300mAh

Note: You can get away with a light power system on 2S if you can keep the weight down. I use an even smaller 370 class motor in my ~15oz DHC-2 Beaver and it flies just fine.
