I have been having some great fun with my Slash 4x4 too! A couple of things I would recommend:
If you didn't buy the ultimate edition (I bought the cheaper VXL) you should upgrade the steering hubs, rear axle carriers and castor blocks. I broke all these parts. It turns out they come standard in the Ultimate edition, I could have saved myself some cash and down time if I had paid a bit more in the beginning.
The other thing worth mentioning is that if you plan to run 3S, you need to buy the optional Traxxas VXL esc fan and a motor fan (I bought the Integy version). Without fans the setup runs really hot...even with highly conservative gearing (eg. 15t/85t). It is within limits now and I am running 19t/85t...it absolutely flies on 3S!
I still want to try the Losi SCTE 4x4 though, to compare...
