Thanks for all the advice and guidance. I tried it last night with a 5x4.5 prop and no issues.
It sure didn't seem to have anywhere near the power as it did when I first tried it out though, and seems to me the motor still gets too hot too quickly. The can was 100 F and the shaft (measured at the rear bearing) was 130 F after a 3/4 throttle run of only a few seconds (maybe 10-15 secs).

I think there is something wrong with the motor - but what goes wrong on a brushless other than the bearings (which feel and sound good, BTW)?

New power system (eflite 6 series 2700kv, castle ICE 50amp esc) and a wattmeter should be here by early next week.
