I have bought one large plane from HobbyKing (CL-415), and true, shipping is the killer. US ordering is not an option, especially when FedEx or UPS are used. They automatically add exagerated fees for clearing customs.
Not certain I would order any large plane from HK. My last plane is a Hangar 9 Piper Cub 1/5, so much better than the equivalent model from HK that a friend of mine has.
I still buy lots from HK, but am more careful. I bought 6 Accucel-6 chargers to have 4 working. Returned one as a test, and it cost me more than buying another one.
