I can't say that I have ever seen a tank mounted that far below the engine but it should work. Having been into Walbro carbs lots I don't believe there is anything resembling a check valve in them so it stands to reason that the fuel would eventually drain back into the tank on any engine with a walbro carb.
I have heard of guys taking the screen out of a regular in line model filter and putting a small ball bearing back in to make a check valve.
I also wonder if a unvented 2 oz surge tank in the power pod in series with the main tank would keep it running long enough to get the fuel moving up from the main tank on start up.
