I am not sure how much it will help but the Artes manual has them in the diagram in the shape of a clark Y airfoil. Flat bottom sharp leading and trailing edge. I don't believe it would hurt this way and it would probably give better airflow with less turbulance. As far as the pebbling on the blades I don't think it would help to smooth them out. I always found as a kid when on hydroplanes the boat ran quicker on a ripple then being smooth.
Hope this helps since I am new at this part and welcome any comments about any topic on turbines. You never get to old to learn more but it is getting rough at my age remembering.
