If youlook at www.leevalley.com you can see what kinds of Jap. saws they sell. MANY different pitch of teeth, some for very fine suts, some for contruction, etc. I have about 6 different ones, but I use them all daily in my work. For modelling, I would recommend a Ryoba saw, which is a backless two sided saw. Rough ripping teeth on one side, fine teeth on the other, without a back but the blade is still stiff enough for hard use. I also like the "japanease plywood saw" which is a good all around hack-saw. For fine cuts, the Dozuki is best but due to the back (spline) you cannot make deep cuts or cut a large piece of ply.

One thing to remember about Lee Valley, if you buy a saw, and then find it less than satisfactory, they take returns up to 90 days, with full refund. An excellent place to shop, I have been buying from them since my teen age years when they opened the first store.
