Just a thought. You might save yourself some hassle by either

1) Change the connectors to match so they can't be put together backwards
2) Mark your connectors with paint so you know you have them right.
3) Would a switch between the receiver and the pack help or maybe a voltage regulator. Might be to much power from the pack to the receiver.
