Re: Glow to electric conversion

The stand-off is a great idea -- gives you room up front to stuff any needed lead (plus puts it even farther forward than the old firewall (lever action).

It looks as though you've got enough holes to get air moving back into the fuselage. Don't forget about getting air out of the fuselage as well.

Where will you be putting the ESC? My next project (the Kougar) is going to have the ESC right behind the main inlet of air in the cowling. Last one was in the fuselage and it "China Syndrome"'d when I got into a low-throttle, low airspeed corner of the envelop and not enough air went over the ESC for cooling.

Keep us informed on the project as it progresses!

BEC elimination is easy -- just unplug the pin for power on the servo lead for throttle and plus a regular battery switch into the battery location or whatever one isn't being used. A little work with a jeweler's screwdriver (smallest one) to lift the retaining clip on the servo plug and you can pull the pin out of the plug tape it down so you can put it back later if needed. If you decide that you'll never use the esc in BEC mode again, snip! snip! and take out about 1/8 of an inch of wire.

Just make sure that you identify and use the power wire and not the signal or ground ones.
