Why are head holding or tail lock gyros NOT recommended for airplanes?
Thanks for any replies.

I have seen HH gyros used in planes, but I think most of the time, the HH is turned off. In an airplane, you really just want the gyro to help keep the plane level or trimmed. In heading hold, the gyro will try to compicompensateweathervein and any other small movements.

I would think that a HH gyro would work in an Airplane but it might be a bit too much. A smooth dampening of movement provided by a Yaw Rate gyro would probably do. I think HH would be overkill.

Just my 2 cents.
