The purpose of the MAAC advisory is to keep you informed and protect you from accidentally frying your radio. This is especially useful to the uninformed who might want to make the switch without doing any research.

Some guys are saying they need to use a resistor or a diode to drop the lipo voltage just a smidgeon to prevent over-voltage from burning out their radios.

This has been discussed at length in several threads in the Electronics section of RCC. A search there will yield some interesting and informative discussions on this matter. Very do-able and (apparently) safe when done in this matter.
