Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

Here is what needs to be in the van when I go to fly

My trusty Triton charger as well as my new turnigy one
Tote bag to hold all the bits glow driver starter etc.
Battery booster pack to give me portable power to power the starter etc. For charging I use my van battery
Last thing to ensure that the 3 kids are in the van.

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

I live not too far from the field, so I bring only the basics, not intending on making any major repairs on the field. I do have a few 3S battery chargers which plug in the car cigarette lighter for the small batteries of my Radian Pro. I have many batteries, so do not charge at the field. Flying electric only keeps everything simple.

I will need to find carrying cases to make things a bit simpler for transmitter, batteries, tools etc.

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

My flight box is an old Goldberg kit you had to build. Crammed with all the basics. Lots of props, several glow drivers, bottle for each plane with all the hardware for it, volt meter, couple of tachs and the latest addition a roll of ribbon for combat.

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

For over 20 years all I took to the field was a jug of glow fuel with a six shooter mounted to it , my glow driver and radio . I never needed more than that . I don't think in all that time I ever even changed a glow plug at the field. The size of my planes now require a trailer but I still believe home is the place for building and fixing , the field is for flying, to this day I bring no more to the field than is needed to fly the plane . I have had a few days where thing did not go well ,so I would pack things up, go home where I would take my time figuring out the problem and fix it proper .Hasty decisions are made when trying to fix thing at the field often resulting in failures .considering what's at stake why take the chance . Learn early on not to make this mistake ,leave the tools and glue at home .better to loose a days flying then a plane . I live 1-1/2 hrs from my field ,that's all the more reason to make sure it's right before leaving .my 2 cents Roger

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

When I first started flying, I took alot of support equipment. I never used it. Now I only take charged batteries and around 3 planes with my TX. If I damage a plane, in the car it goes and I fly the other planes I have with me. Never fix anything at the field. As was mentioned earlier the field is for flying.

If I am staying longer and need to charge batteries. I bring along chargers, a field battery and small table. I don't like to charge in the car or under the hood. If something goes wrong the inexpensive table burns not the expensive car.

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

I fly smaller electric planes and gliders. When I go flying I generally bring just the plane, radio and batteries. My house is pretty close to the field so I don't worry about spares. When I'm off for a weekend to fly, I bring everything minus the kitchen sink.
- Glues, covering, tapes, scrap balsa and foam
- exacto knife, micro screwdriver set
- spare props, servos, prop savers, elastics
- chargers, batteries, etc
- camping tent, stove, sleeping bag, etc

Most of my RC stuff fits in a large plastic tool box and a few segmented parts carriers, so it is fairly easy to stay organized.

I manage to fill a mid size sedan pretty well! The entire trunk is full to the top, and the back seat is full of carefully stacked planes. I tape or pin elastics to the seats to hold down the models so they don't shift.

Re: Post the tools & equipment you lug to the air field

Along with the tools already mentioned, I bring an extra Tx and extra aircraft. Since I fly electric, I also take an adapter I made to charge from the cig. lighter, lipo sacks and battery checkers.
