That`s ok Hal, one of the few times that I can get Momma into a hobby shop - but`s it`s for the grandkids - so nothing lost if no kits.

He wants to start from scratch, last weekend whet his whistle on a GP 90 Cub build and he focused for 4 straight hours while we made up the wing! Gotta keep up the momentum.

If they don't have the kit you are looking for in Regina, then Great Hobbies has them.....I just checked online....good luck with the search John. Do you have an engine, radio or servos lined up for a .40 size?

Re: Want advice for grandson

10 year old kid has very short attention span. Once you accept that then your relationship with your grandson will be great. Buy him something that goes together in 10 mins then go out side and chuck it. He will learn far more from that experience than spending weeks building a airplane that his Grandfather did the most of the building. I have 2 nephews who are 6 and 7 years old, Crappy tire sells foam airplanes for $.99 that I buy them. They put them together in a couple of mins and then we throw them in the basement. We have great fun.

And that`s good advice too Mike although it looks like he`s turned a bit of a corner on the attention thingy and seems fascinated with the build. I have a couple of LT40 bare airframes from estate sales so if I want to accelerate the build process I can cover them, install electronics and fly if he gets bored.

You`re right though, had trouble getting him to engage enough to put together a hand chucked glider less than a year ago

Now he`ll pull on a press long enough to load 50 rounds of ammo; seems fascinated with how things work so we`ll give it a try.

Re: Want advice for grandson

how about an electric radian rtf to get him flying and educated on how it all works, while you build up the lt40 type trainer to progress to ailerons down the road.

my son and I kit built a dynaflite butterfly and put an os25 on the nose. Great big stable motor glider. If I did it again I would electrify it to give more options for soaring/powered flight.

Thanks Daryll, that's good advice. He seems fascinated with construction and when it comes time to fly, the Radian will be a good starting point.

You took the words right out of my mouth Daryll! Excellent choice, builds fairly quickly into a very easy to fly plane.

Too bad you have such a short time frame John, your choices are going to be really limited in a hobby shop too!

Flite Test has some interesting choices too if he is interested in foam board building.

P.S. I do have a Butterfly kit here if you are interested.
