Raptor 50 pitch

I going to ask a question that has probably been asked before but I can't find the answer. Have a Raptor 50 V2 converted from 30 V2. I am using an OS 50 Hyper engine and a Futaba 6EX Radio. My setup is,
EPA, 100 and 100
Pitch, -4 at low, +2 at mid, + 8.5 at top end
Pitch curve, 18-38-55-75-100
Servo arm length 11mm C to C
Also is it better to use the shorter C to C on the servo arm for more authority or longer C to C and lower EPA to get what I want. This is just for normal flight mode. Have not setup throttle curve yet because I do not have the parts yet to install the engine, in the mail. Have posted this on another sight but I would like your opinions also if I could.

Re: Raptor 50 pitch

What you use will depend on what you want, and the servos that you're using.

Mounting closer to center will give you more torque, and resolution, but less speed.

If you're running really good torquey servos like 8711s, then you can get away with moving 'em further out for a really quick/snappy response. If you're running S3003s, then I'd suggest squeezing out every ounce of torque you can.

Since you're obviously not going for a 3d setup here (based on the setup you've cited), I'd suggest going for torque and resolution.

Re: Raptor 50 pitch

You might need more than 8.5 degrees pitch on the high end too. Depending on the headspeed you end up with, that may be barely enough to get it off the ground.

Re: Raptor 50 pitch

The servo's are Hitec 475Hb, The torque is 61oz @ 4.8 volts
Speed is .23 @ 4.8 volts.
They don't have a lot of speed but they have Torque. Longer arm would probably be better and I could set up for more top end.
Thanks, Art

Re: Raptor 50 pitch

Actually, that's really not a lot of torque for that size helicopter either. I'd suggest going closer to center. Torque is going to be more important than speed.

Re: Raptor 50 pitch

OK, stayed with the shorter servo arm and changed the collective link length and with the Same EPA and a Pitch Curve of 0-30-55-75-94, I have a pitch now of -3,+5,+11. Will that be better you think?

Re: Raptor 50 pitch

For scale flying 11 degrees is probably a bit aggressive. 8.5 might even be fine depending on your head speed. As a starting point I'd probably aim for 10 degrees and adjust as you see fit during flight testing.

Re: Raptor 50 pitch

Are you going to fly in idle up at all? Make sure that the hover point pitch is about the same on both curves or the heli might jump or fall when you switch over. Since most idle up curves have 0 pitch at center stick, have +5 pitch at center in normal mode might cause some issues.

I have to agree that those servos are light on torque, I usually aim for around 100-120 for 30-50 size helis. I usually also look for speed in the .10 to .15. What you have should be fine for sport/scale flying though.

Re: Raptor 50 pitch

Thanks for the reply's. Just sport flying with no idle up mode. Want to move this to a Scale Heli in the future.
