Moving right along...Got the stab edges all sanded but wont cut the elevators free until the incidences are set. Boy are these stabs thin compared to my big J Tech and light! Reminds me of my pattern planes. I definitely would not core these unless you cf-ed them strategically and even then I doubt they would be much lighter!
The wing roots are all ready to sand too prior to finalizing the incidence which I think is one of the key points to the whole build. Will take my time here.

It's great how you have the root-plate of the stabs fitting under the sheeting to really lock it in place! Also makes it much easier to finish and you eliminate a joint to blend in Wingburner's 35% E330 is done that way also as an experiment and it worked out great!

Got some more blingy ideas on how I'm going to finish up the cockpit. The smoked canopy on your build looks perfect with that VW scheme but my cockpit will be totally visible so pulling out all the stops on the pilot and panel with weight in mind of course!
I may give some ideas on my paint scheme soon as I have time, but it will include checkers!

Photo flood Incidence setting part one:
set fuse to zero/zero
put wing on tube and zero with incidence meter at midway point on wing, pin in place and mark center lines fore and aft.
remove wing and tape paper to fuse
mark centerline on paper and using pre drilled wing bolt plates use pin to locate center line.
put pin on outside and using this glue ply wing bolt plate in position with cyano.

Incidence cont'd
do same for rear bolt location of plate and anti rotation hardpoint.
rout out and trial fit ply hardpoints into wing root.
glue the whole mess including wing root rib with probond and dont forget to drill for servo wire location prior and which side is bottom on wing!

Remeber this is only to get close for the final drilling which will set the incidence forever. I will be using 8-32 bolts and threaded inserts in the wing and a cf tube with dowel center for the anti rotation pin which will also be drilled for a clip a la Aeroworks.

I also moved into my dowstairs shop so I can be a little warmer for the preparation of the glass parts. Only problem is I cant sand...so back and forth for a while.

Lee... Question for ya!!!....have you sanded the wings yet? I'm really eager to get your thoughts/techniques on sanding something smooth on a curved surface without inducing waviness!!!

I had a bugger of a time on my Aerotech Yak when I tried to smooth out the sheeting after it was laminated to the core. Since then, I have been so fearful of going through that and it's probably the single biggest thing that has kept me away from vacuum bagging

Lots of people do it, so I know it's just me, but would love to learn how to do it!! I'm also fearful of creating a thin spot in the sheeting that would be a failure poiint?

Soooo.... Really hoping you can show me how!!

Trev I am using a longer sanding block made with foam that can bend to conform to the curve of the wing. I like foam sanding blocks since they are softer and wont gouge things or sand off curves as much as a rigid block.
The wing should'nt take that much sanding as the seams are mostly flush with a slight feel to them and the wing has already been sanded to 400.
Will likely use 220 and then 400 to finish. I have a feeling that too smooth and the adhesive on the covering does'nt grab as well.

Do you use a "woodpecker" or some such on your sheeting?
