Starting Table Designs

Our club is in need of a few more starting tables . Most of the existing tables consist of a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 ply with workbench type legs aprox 32" high . I was wondering about any other designs people are using . Most of the planes flown are 40-60 size .

Safety Benches

Hi Rich
Our club has been using a bench designed by Charlie Meyer at a club in New York. There web site is www.Meroke.comThere are photos of the benches and I believe I have a set of plans in a pdf file somewhere if you are interested. These benches are great and are a fairly easy build.
It keeps the planes up off the ground and lets you start and run up your planes very safely. Hopes this helps

Starting Benches

Hi,

There are some pictures shown of starting benches in another post here on RCC, the pictures were taken while the person was on a trip. The thread is here:
https://www.rccanada.ca/bb/viewtopic.php?t=32982

Scroll through the thread, you'll have to go quite away down before seeing starting benches then click on a picture that seems promising, if you like what you see, right click on the picture and save it so you can print it off later at the size you want.

Hope this helps.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne Miller

Safety Bench

RMadsen,

Here are the plans that Kip is referring to:
http://www.meroke.com/sbbuildinginstructions.htm
Just click the 'Print This Page' Button and it will give you a nicely formated document file to save.

This is an excellent bench as Kip said.

Thanks Todd. I wasn't able to find my pdf file. I guess I lost it when my hard drive crashed last month. At least someone has the good sense to keep a set of these plans on hand. I'm sure Rich will find these benches to be most useful. I know we do.

Hi Rich.

I built 5 for our club, of the type that Wayne Miller provided the link for. Give you a tip, go to your local lumber supply and ask them what they do with their lumber "culls". Best results came from the lumber manager, not the store manager. I got everything I needed from our local Home Depot last year for $1.00 a board. Use deck screws and pressure treated wood and they will last forever. The lumber yards go thru piles of it this time of year.

They were a little slow being used at first, but once the guys got used to them, there is now a problem getting one. I am building 2 more this year and am making the upright portion 6 inches longer to accommodate larger high winged planes.

Dennis Pratt, he's a member on here, posted a pretty neat table also. Give him a pm. He's got the plans all drawn up for one.
