Anyone running RC iceboats?

I am curious as to what the runners are made of and how they are made.

I have some plans for land yachts that i would like to build but none of them suggest runners for winter.

About those ice boats, seeing them run, because of the scale size of the blades and the actual size of the imperfections in the ice you're likely to experience these models don't have much of a chance of running smoothly or properly. I noticed your dumas thread though and thought you could kill two birds with one stone by using the swampbuggy for snow/winter fun as I have.

Looks like a lot of fun. Do you do anything special to the bottom of the hull? Wax, etc?

I don't do anything special to the bottom, only I do apply some STP Son-of-a-Gun formula which does repel water and forms a slick coating from time to time. the fiberglass I have on the bottom is pretty smooth and my setup is pretty powerfull so I can get around even with some stick(never been a problem basically)

Definitely looks like it worked. Was tyhe snow hard packed crust or was the hull just very slippery?

What motor are you using?

Many types of snow, packed, unpacked, melted and then frozen crusty, soft are no problem. Only thing that is unridable is a foot or more of fresh champagne powder. The nose gets burried way too much. Consider the scale equivilent for thoughts. The hull below is very slippery but with the STP it certainly adds water repellancy. Two coats of it, or of any fiberglass conditioner or protectant and you'll get improvement. I was thinking having turnable skis on the frint would be cool but as it is I can turn on a dime, and when the snow is a coupla inches of powder the handling is pretty good. Of course there is a little skill to driving it.

I would imagine visibility might be an issue in light powder. Of course, at that point just steer the cloud!
