homemade four blade head for my 600

OK it is homemade but I built it with my mini lathe and milling machine. Took me about three months and for the first time I flew it yesterday. Before I get too far I will also let you know it has a flybar with no electric stabilization. It so far flys like somewhere between a co-axial and a stock 600. At this point it can sit in one spot with less input than you need to hold a 600 in place. As a matter of fact I had to move the stick to get it to move from a hover at one point. So far I have only gone through five battery packs on it's first flight and most of those were used for set up before any real hovering took place. I will post some pics when IO can get on my laptop I would take a video but my camera and computer won't work in video mode so I can't view any videos I take. If someone is in the vancouver area that can take a video maybe we can work something out.

A four bladed head with a flybar!? That's different. How's that work? You have 4 flybar paddles as well?

I'd love to see some close up pics of your design. Way cool!

Definitely! Me too.

This would make a great build thread. Hopefully you did take some pictures of your progress. If not, I would be happy to just see your setup as it stands now.

Pictures, Pictures!!!

Re: homemade four blade head for my 600

Took pictures all along. The flybar setup only works on two of the blades but it's more aggressive than any flybar setup out there. Sort of a calm among the storm you might say. I have to fly it more to get a better feel for what it will do I do know that inverted would be hard to do and as far as autorotate goes I believe it will but how well I don't know. Lets put it this way with the way I fly these things will work just fine. I still need to try it out more wish I could download a video.

Wow.. Now I'm even more confused. So the flybar only works on two of the blades... What about the other two then? I don't imagine you just have them flopping around doing whatever they want... Is it flybarred on 2 blades, and a direct swash to grip link on the other two? Sort of an FBL hybrid? That would be pretty whacky!

That is what I am thinking. the flybar has a second set of links that go down to a second swash that has another set of links back up to the other two blades? the phasing would be correct this way.

Pictures man!!! I wanna see this! LOL

Re: homemade four blade head for my 600

Well on the ground it looks normal but in the air you need to track two sets of blades. One set is totally in my control the other set is totally in the flybars control with a little bit of posative pitch to help lift it otherwise it won't get off the ground. Here is a pic from the other day I'm going out to fly it in a minute while I still have daylight, I'll do a build thread very soon just not today.

Re: homemade four blade head for my 600

Wow. that looks great for home-made!

But I need more close-ups, Igor!!!!

I still cant make out the mechanism. How did you figure the phasing of the flybar? Did you build this from plans or from scratch?

Very intriguing.
