Steering servo for 1/8 buggies (Hitec Titanium Gear)

Hello all,
I found a Hitec HSC-5998-TG for an amazing price ($79.99 US -@$95 Cdn + delivery) But the specs for the 5998 are:

Torque 4.8/6.0v: 200/250 oz. 14/18 kg

Speed 4.8/6.0v: 0.23/0.19 SEC

Versus my original first choice, the HSC-5997-TG. Here's the specs:

Torque 4.8/6.0v: 136/181 oz. 10/13 kg

Speed 4.8/6.0v: 0.17/0.14 sec.

Is the 5998 overkill for a 1/8 buggy? Is the slight speed advantage of the 5997 make it the perfect choice? Would the 5998 use up batteries quicker than the 5997?

What do ya'll think?

regards

The 3 titanium geared servos Hitec offers have all the same componants, motors ect... They are just geared differently. They whould all draw the same amount of current.

no prob that is a good price for that servo, but you could also go with the 5945mg it is a digital sevo metal geared same specs as the 5997tg it's what i use for a steering servo works very well and is cheaper.

ow long do you think a 5945mg would last in comparison to the 599X-TGs? What attracts me to the TG servos is their extremely long lifespan.

Hittec have never given me anything but trouble and if you ask allot pf people thill tell you the same... IMO save your money and get a Futaba or Airtonics.

IMO both of those servos are too slow if your going to be racing, the slowest i like to have for steering is .13, both are fine for torque thgouh,

but i've also had really bad luck with hitec, one race weekend i burned up three in one day, and four for the weekend, up until that point i had never had any issues, but then they all went at once, not sure if the new ones are any better or not, but i know i wont trust them,

get one of these... i've tried pretty much every servo on the market and these titanium gear ones are by far the toughest... funny thing is its not because of thier titanium gears but because of the way the case is designed... all the shafts that the gears spin on are captured in metal bushings imbedded in the plastic case... all other servos just have a hole in the plastic case into which the shaft is pressed in... after a few hits this plastic hole ovals out and your left with a sticky servo... and .14 is not too slow for racing unless your racining touring cars... just use a longer horn
