Re: Question About Battery Wires
I agree with what everyone has mentioned here so far. Check the connectors, check the soldering job. Deans is only rated 60A? That may not be enough if your rustler is pulling more than that. A larger connector would make more sense. EC5 is a good choice.
I also agree, 12G should be enough. What current is your 12g wire rated for? Getting that warm requires lots of current assuming everything else checks out. If you are running in winter(I am assuming outside) and its getting warm, you may have to up-gauge to handle the current. This is a real puzzle.

Re: Question About Battery Wires
I've only had the opportunity to run my home made cable once in my basement. The area I was running the car is barely large enough to drive the Rustler in a circle and the run itself was short.
I have to run it again (currently its in pieces) and check the wires of ESC, battery and my home made extention. I may have to re-solder my connections because I feel like I may have rushed it and did a lousy job of it. Of course I covered the connections with shrink wrap so I can't check them visually - DOH!!

Re: Question About Battery Wires
Exactly lol Not sure what the weather has to do with pics...
Anyways, to the OP, post some pics so you can resolve your heat issue before the spring thaw (if it ever comes-15cm more snow today!) Generally speaking, any type of adapter is a bad idea because of the high current of these machines, its best to either switch everything over to Deans or everything to Traxxas |

Re: Question About Battery Wires
Like everyone else has said...TAKE SOME PICTURES
You've had the camera charging for a month and a half now Maybe even a vid could help.. I agree 100% with tossing the adapter and having a straight connection. It's only a 2s so I would think deans or ec3 would suffice. But if it doubt or have the tools to measure the amperage, use the ec5. I've also been wondering since the OP started this thread, maybe the car guys could shime in... What about his gearing, he said he changed it, COULD THIS BE OVERLOADING ANYTHING or maybe even just the mesh.....
