GMAC lost their field....
Last weeks 10 cm of rain did a number on everyone. The Greater Moncton Aeromodelers were not spared. The river next to the field where we fly rose approx. 12 feet in a day. This, combined with the ice that was still on the river caused major damage along the banks. I've included a few pics of what's left of our field.
We are in the process of looking for another flying field at the moment. It appears that these blocks of ice and the tremendous force of the rising river acted like a plow. The strip is going to be in really bad shape. The picture with the red arrow shows approximately where the shelter, outhouse, BBQ and storage used to be. It's all gone. |

Man, that's sad.
Looks like our local river every spring, luckily the only thing damaged every year is a dog walk path.... Good luck in finding a new location.

Nah. Everything there really wasn't worth anything except for our particular use. The shelter was recycled lumber w/tin roof, etc...
We're looking at getting the city involved...maybe they would have some land we can use. Wish us luck! Jason |

That is not good news!
I am sorry to hear about your field!! Hopefully your club can find a new field soon. I am lucky, my field is in the middle of no-where. No lakes or water sources near to wash or field away.

MAST field had lots of damage 2
I thought we were the only ones that had problems with that storm. We received over 70 mm of rain. About a 400 acre section (of which 8 acres is ours) was under about 4 feet of water. We're hoping now that the field will be in good enough shape to fly off of for our fun fly which is May.

Update on the field situation......
Well guys, now that the ice is gone here are the final conclusions:
Runway is not in too bad shape. Can be fixed with a small load of topsoil. Shelter and facilities are all destroyed. We will use this field for the summer, but we are working with the city to find another field. They have been very helpful, and are making some great suggestions. I found that when approaching the city, they didn't know very much about the hobby, and exactly how serious some of us are about it. Many people hear 'model airplane', and think of toys, not realizing the extent of the hobby. Six of us got together and prepared a document to present to the city to let them know what we're all about. The document is 10 pages long and pretty detailed. I think this helped out quite a bit. I'll keep everyone posted on our progress. Jason |

Flying Field Problems
Is it not amazing what mother nature can do to flying sites? This spring,
at least the ASRCM field did not have major damage, even though at it's peak there was 8' plus of water (the sun shelter was completely under). This was the storm that took out all those roads and bridges in NS. Their big loss was the storage shed at the field. |
